Bridging the Gap organised and held a side event in collaboration with the South African Ministry of Transport on the 6th December. Experts from multilateral development banks, such as Walter Vergara (IDB), Lloyd Wright (ADB) and Ligia Castro de Doens (CAF) joined governmental officials from Colombia (Felipe Targa, Ministry of Transport), Africa (Jeremy Cronin, Ministry of Transport) and Indonesia (Wendy Aritenang, Ministry of Transport) to discuss climate mitigation strategies at the transport sector.

Mr Wright referred to the commitment of the multilateral banks to invest 100 billion usd in sustainable transport, though he mentioned that at the same time a 270 trillion usd is about to be invested by public sector in road infrastructure. Walter Vergara mentioned the emphasis of IDB in land use change, power sector and transport in order to reduce GHG emissions and Mrs. Ligia Castro de Doens emphasised in the collaboration of CAF with GIZ in order to develop NAMAs in Colombia. Felipe Targa presented some of Colombia's mitigation strategies (BRT expansion, road pricing at Bogota), along with the need to develop adaptation strategies, referring to the recent floods in Colombia that resulted to a 10% loss of the road network.Mr. Jack van del Merke from the African Association of Public Transport did the closing remarks, reiterating the goal of his association to double public transport modal share by 2025 at the region.
