The suggestions for the inclusion of transport in the Copenhagen agreement include:
- Explicitly include the transport sector in mitigation and adaptation efforts in the preamble of the negotiating text
- Support mitigation efforts at all levels, including at local level.
- Support the development of transport related mitigation actions (NAMAs) and recognise co-benefits of NAMAs in all sectors including transport.
- Ensure that cooperative sectoral approaches include transport.
- Include system-wide technologies as subjects for technology transfer.
Developing solutions for sustainable, low-carbon transport is an important step towards climate change mitigation. Urgent action is required now.
